I'm Nathan, a web developer based in Bath. I've spent the last several years building websites at a Bath-based digital agency, working on Umbraco projects for organisations ranging from hospices to financial services firms. BuildNL is the freelance side of that: the same quality of work, without the agency overhead.
I care about the brief more than the technology. Most of the time there's a right tool for the job, and my job is to tell you which one that is — not to push the stack I happen to enjoy working with. If Umbraco is what you need, great. If a lighter build will serve you better and cost you less, I'll say so.
When I'm not building websites, I train Brazilian jiu-jitsu, play guitar in a band, and walk a Border Terrier around Bath's hills.

— How I work
A few things worth knowing before we work together.
Fixed scope, fixed price
Every project starts with a written proposal that defines exactly what's included. I work to fixed quotes, not hourly rates — so you always know what you're paying before work begins. If the scope changes, we discuss it; it doesn't silently appear on an invoice.
One point of contact
You'll deal with me directly, start to finish. No account managers, no handoffs to a junior, no explaining the brief twice. The person you speak to in the discovery call is the person who builds the site.
Honest about fit
If I'm not the right person for your project, I'll tell you. That might mean the budget isn't there for what you need, or that a different technology would serve you better, or simply that the scope is outside what I take on as a solo developer. I'd rather lose a project than deliver something I'm not proud of.
Based in Bath, UK
Most of my work is done remotely — discovery calls, design reviews, and handovers all work well over video. If you're based in or around Bath and prefer to meet in person, that's easy to arrange.
